It is time we all know the truth as Nigerians; THERE'S NOTHING LIKE NORTH CENTRAL. Middle Belt (also spelt Middle-Belt or Central Nigeria) is a term used in human geography to designate a belt region stretching across central Nigeria longitudinally and forming a transition zone between Northern and Southern Nigeria. In the 1920s, it was described by Melzian (1928:496) as the "Middle Zone" or Middle Belt Region Central Nigeria.
Before the creation of the six geopolitical zones, our fathers had a place in Nigeria called Middle Belt Region. There was nothing like North Central Nigeria, this term came as a political ploy by the Northern leaders to continually have a hand over the minority ethnic groups that occupied the Middle Belt Region. They saw that projecting the Middle Belt Zone as a self governing region without northern attachment would cause them heavy political disadvantages.
My Father who died in 2017 at the age of 105 years told me clearly that there's nothing like North Central. Nigeria has six geopolitical Zones:
1. North East
2. North West
3. Middle Belt Region or Central Nigeria
4. South South
5. South East
6. South West
The Middle Belt is an independent region in Nigeria just like any other geopolitical zone, and the Tiv people of Benue state are not Hausas or Fulanis. It is unfortunate that they were robbed of their position. The Tiv people are an independent nation in the Benue valley and can not be classified as northerners. Anyone telling Sen. Ayu to step down as PDP chairman because he is a northerner is a joker. Sen. Ayu is a Tiv man from Benue State in the Middle Belt Region not the Northern Region.
